Bear Island - Day 4 - Temagami
The day began with a foggy morning drive to the Boat Launch and a very spooky boat ride! Thanks for the ride today Michael!
We had a quick walk around the island to start the day: Nadine, Casey, Audrey and Lisa g. Then jumped right into making sure the student laptop would be functional after we leave, and had a few more kinks to work out as we transferred from Mac to PC. But as we know, filmmaking always has a few technical issues….so Lisa g re-built Audreys edit while Audrey and Nadine visited the band office to gather archival footage.
Casey and Eddie got a costume together and Andrew collected live sound of water. Eddie donned his costume and it was right out of the 1900’s! The film team went to the school: Andrew and Audrey handled camera work while Eddie acted as someone fleeing the flood with a child.
At this point everyone is using 100% of the Bear Island film equipment! That was our goal. SO the 2 cameras, the zoom recorder and the wireless microphones! Thanks to Wayne who provided the mini to 3/4 inch adaptor for the mics to plug into the Tascam audio recorder!
Back at the Canoe House, we recorded Ericka’s testimonial voiceover, followed by a powerful interview with Joe Katt. To close the day, we recorded an interview with Chief Shelly Moore-Frappier — who is also Eddie G’s mother! Casey and Lisa g captured b-roll recreation of moccasins during the flood — hopefully it will add an artful, atmospheric layer to the story.
Audrey continued to focus deeply on editing and refining the footage! Audrey is a natural and patient editor.
It was a very full, productive, and rewarding day. As the heat rose later in the afternoon, Casey, Ericka, and Eddie G went off to the cliff to capture some b-roll and jump into the water! Eddie wore the GoPro for many of the jumps! An exhilarating way to end our last full day on Bear Island.
Lisa g and Nadine got on the 4:30pm shuttle feeling so happy!
