Day 8 Bella Bella !

Second to last day!

Fresh fruit and tasty crispy seaweed start our day. Take in the IRON!

Nice to meet Lori’s mom, Verna, today (heart emoji!)

Danny continues in his work: song composition and editing! Credits and timing! LOOOKING SO GOOD!

TJ chooses a song - thanks Lori and Rory - adds the song to the timeline AND completes their film! Ahead of schedule. This is a very personal piece and will be shared with community. TJ has decided not to share at festivals. This is a choice for every filmmaker. It is important to make work without thinking about the audience and making a piece that is important to the director and then decide WHO the audience is. BRAVO to TJ for making a brave tribute to her mom and basketball. Thank you so much.

Today Yaya comes by in the morning but is tired and so tag teams Elle to take over. That is the cool thing of working in a team! Elle goes through the interview with Fran and adds text questions and considers the story, she selects part of the interview that could be cut out and will check in with Yaya about that. She also cuts out the questions and the ummms-so satisfying! Elle also put English subtitles on her own Heilstuk intro!

Eryn added more photos and tweaked the order AND added end credits. By focusing on the little changes it make a big difference to a film. It all takes time and it is nice to be able to take breaks and come back to it.

Big Thank You to Sebnem for making a cool looking poster and Claudette and Lori for printing. Then, Eryn and TJ distributed the posters for the screening. Giǎxsix̌a

Sanique started to overlay her scenes on her timeline - she has 4 lip syncing scenes plus other scenes of her walking, sitting or running. She also added instrumental moments to her song- it sounds so pretty. Sanique also wrote out about 80% of her credits and will record one more scene with her sister tonight and then finish the edit tomorrow! It’s getting exciting! ;)

Norman and Tehya sat together a bit today going over the interviews. They have 4 interviews to review and edit. This is the most difficult time of filmmaking. It takes focused listening and decision making. As well when the interviewees talk about emotional subjects like when the Hudson Bay company brought disease to the region - it is important to take breaks and care for yourself. Ayla even talks about taking care of oneself in the interview Norman conducted. Norman and Tehya made sure to do this. Today when they needed a break they played a song and danced. They also went to the Big House to record a song. The Big House and practicing culture provides so much healing. Tehya stayed LATE listening and editing while taking turns working on her regalia.

While Tehya edited Lori organized a double bill of Frank Brown films: Tribal Canoe Gathering - Qatuwas 2014 and Voyage of Rediscovery, a film from 1990 about restorative justice as it happened in his own life.

Tired but extremely grateful.
