Kangiqsujuaq - Screening Night

Today started very relaxed. Sleep in. Breakfast. Walks. A little bit of packing….

Then, at 1pm the mentors met Nigel at Qaggiq to set up.

The screen was HUGE! It took 4 of us to set it up! Lots of rope tying and coordination. We laughed a lot.

Then Glenn and Lisa went with Mary (Nigel’s mom) to Co-op to get groceries for the spaghetti dinner for the screening. Big Nakumik to Mary for doing the catering!! Mary got a ride back to her house to cook and Glenn and Lisa walked back to Quaggiq.

Nigel and Sebnem carried on setting up the chairs, speakers and table for the projection and sound.

Once back all together at Quaggiq, we discovered the projector bulb is broken! ACK! Luckily Alex P & Alex G said we could borrow the projector at the Residence! PHEW. So Lisa and Glenn got the projector and then we tested the sound and projection. WE ARE SET!

Everyone can head home and freshen up to reconvene at 6:30 to welcome the community.

Folks start arriving and help themselves to tea, coffee and juice. The dinner is a bit late, so Nigel and Lisa decide to make announcements and explain the project and give thanks and gifts!

It is such a great turnout! About 40-50 people! We watch the 2019 films first and then stop to have dinner. Thanks again to Mary for bringing spaghetti, garlic bread and cake! Nakummiik!

THEN we watch the 4 films that were just completed. Everyone was so attentive and engrossed.

Lally’s animation got some serious laughter. BRAVO.

A big shoutout to the bravery of Nigel, Bernie and Errayou for sharing their personal stories. We believe that Nigel’s films will make a difference for young Inuit struggling with depression. Bernie was candid about how his trauma made him angry and alcoholic and he talked about how he turned his life around. Errayou, we believe you! To be such a young and vulnerable child who was abused is unforgiveable. We all wish we could go back in time and change it. We feel so honoured to help you tell your story!

It was a powerful night that ended in a lot of family photos so we could all remember it. Nigel has a wonderful extended family.

Thanks to all who attended!

Nakummiik!!
