Old Crow - day 1 - TRAVEL
Mentors Lisa g and Sebnem have an easy flight to Whitehorse! Megan and Robert joined us on the same flight so it was nice to catch up.
Even though it was sunny and clear in Whitehorse there was a flight delay due to weather. Dawson City is in a valley so it often gets 'socked-in’ with fog and clouds and weather. And our flight was supposed to go Dawson City, Inuvik and then OC….but eventually the trip to Dawson City was cancelled so all the folks we were talking to in the lounge had to head back to a Whitehorse hotel for the night…but Old Crow and Inuvik were a GO! YAY!
That said, Air North had to take a bunch of luggage out for gas - they normally gas up in Dawson City and apparently gas from Old Crow is too expensive, so there you go. We had one beat up suitcase* come through (out of 4) but we can manage the first workshop without. The rest should come through tomorrow by noon! And besides, it’s SO nice to be back here. Crispy cold air, crunchy snow and ice crystals everywhere! GORGEOUS.
Megan got us settled in her cabin. Right near the John Tizya Centre so our commute will be 2 minutes! LOVE this cabin.
We went for a walk, to breathe air, move our bodies and visit the Porcupine River and then on the way back we visited Mary Jane and Kayleen for some giggles (and towels)! So nice to see them again.
Turns out the cabin has had an upgrade with some electric heat, so, since we were so tired and didn’t have energy to make a fire we just drifted off to sleep!
*Note to self: use rubber totes instead of suitcases…it’s better for northern travel!
