Old Crow - Wednesday workshop

Happy Wednesday!

Kayleen continued her edit and as well listened to all sorts of ‘country music’ royalty free - it is hard to find just the right song…especialy one that we can afford…haha ….meaning FREE.

Mary Jane and Sophie continue to edit. MJ works on filling her timeline with imagery and Sophie works on shortening the interview of herself.

Erin and Tamika came by to visit and they both were encouraging for folks to apply for the Yukon indigenous artists and cultural carriers micro grants …up to $5,000…we all got so excited. And Tamika and Erin would help people apply. They are interested in lowering barriers to money of indigenous artists! They even encouraged artist to apply to the Yukon Permanent Art Collection. The government will pay artist fees! MJ, Kayleen and Sophie all feel like perfect candidates for this !!! They watched Kayleen’s rough edit and were very enthusiastic about Kayleen’s amazing photos.

Lunch is such fun when Daniel brings Thomas. We spend ALOT of time running up and down the hallways and tickling. Thomas is such a bright light and the star of Sophie’s film. (video below)

Today was the soft opening of Caribou Days…we just wandered over to the hall to see the decorations and hear from a few people.…so exciting!!! Porcupine Caribou Management Board Chair Joe Tetlitchi introduced the event and the host of the whole event is named Teresa Frost and she has been doing this for years. She is very funny and lets everyone know what the plan is and what to expect. Love her.

A nice late evening walk with Kayleen, started at her grandma’s house and their newly hunted caribou! The meat lays out on cardboard to dry out a bit and then the next day a whole bunch of friends and family will cut it up and put it in the freezer. That is a lot of food to share!

On the walk we hung out with a very cute dog at the playground and on the Porcupine River. (Notice the caribou hoof in the playground…we see them a lot, I guess the dogs find them and chew on them). We also spotted a muskrat in the river! It swam so fast and seemed to say hello to the ducks. Also please notice the diamond-like chunk of ice. Shine bright like a diamond! ;) (video below)
