Bella Bella - workshop day two

Super impressed with everyone’s ideas and work ethic…right from the morning folks worked so hard on their projects.

Jimmy is working on a promotional video about his mad skills as a drone operator! He has already made films for BC Ferries and a car dealership for compensation! …. So is interested to build on this momentum. Jimmy is a serious grade 9 entrepreneur/filmmaker/photographer!

Danny is working on animation for a film inspired by their favourite character Ludwig von Koopa from Mario Kart video game. Danny has sketch books filled with incredible hand drawn characters and imagery , so is putting this talent under camera and and learning dragon frame to animate!! Danny also edited sound that adds such humour!

Aaliya and Laurence are working together on a project about anxiety. Aaliya worked on an animated character while Laurence started to experiment with white board animation! Aaliya also photocopied the character so it can be cut out - so all of the arms and legs can move separately. Aaliya has made many films with Our World…so there is a pretty self-directed idea already generated! Aaliya ended up borrowing a camera over the weekend!

Latoya worked on her script about how school systems should make sure teachers and principals understand colonial violence and generational trauma so they can support indigenous students better! This is such an important message. Latoya has made so many important films about culture with Our World over the years. She also has been working in the community as a filmmaker and editor!

Eryn worked on her script about Daisy, a person in the community who makes amazing popsicles and delicious bread. Eryn also collected imagery … this meant we all got to go to Daisy’s to see where the magic happens AND try the delicious popsicles! Then Eryn, went out and collected live sound! Eryn has so much of the media collected- BRAVO! AND will continue to capture imagery over the weekend.

The mentors went home SO HAPPY. Again we feel so lucky to be here and appreciate the young artists energy and commitment! SO Exciting!

AND of course ALL THE YOUTH CENTER SUPPORT! Lori, Claudette and Reg! It was so fun having lunch with you today! We appreciate the laughter and conversations. IF there was some singing from MULAN, we loved that too…oh yeah, and the INDIAN TACOS!
