Kangiqsujuaq - Workshop Day 4

An emotional day overall, but truly worthwhile to get these stories heard.

Hugs to all for their strength and courage.

Lally worked hard again, making her final drawings: a seal and beluga. She worked with Glenn to make title and credits and transitions. Her story is COMPLETED and it is so charming! She told such a sweet tale of herself as a young girl who was the only one who could run fast enough to catch a baby goose.

Nigel had a super busy day:

He brought photo albums and selected photos for his dad’s film.

Nigel’s grandmother Errayou, arrived and wanted to tell the stories of what happened to her as a child. At last years screening, Errayou said she wanted to tell her story in Inuktitut and here she came today to do just that. Her stories were about the trauma she endured and it was difficult to hear how she suffered, many things Nigel heard for the first time. But it is also felt that these are steps towards healing. She was not only told not to share these stories but also, in some cases, when she did try to tell, she wasn’t believed. Errayou said she felt relief to finally tell the things she carried for so long

Plans were hatched for a trip to Saluit (north of Kangiqsujuaq) with all 3 generations: Nigel, Bernie and Errayou to share these stores and encourage others to speak out and to put an end to Inuit suicide in that community.

Nigel and Lisa worked on subtitles for Errayou’s film and got 1/2 way. The content was so heavy Nigel needed to take a much needed break.

Sebnem helped edit Bernie’s interview as instructed by Nigel, taking out the repetitive parts…

We were thankful to Elaysa (the chef for the residence) for sharing pulled pork sandwiches with the elders DELISH!

Glenn made tacos for dinner - thank you! Nakumik!
